After my shift at the cats only boarding facility this morning, I decided I was going to spend some time with three of our resident cats. They’re generally happy to see anybody who comes in to clean or fill food and water bowls, but today, they seemed especially lonely.
It was the pitiful meows and the weaving between my legs that was my first clue.
So once the morning’s work was done, I went and sat down with them for a while. A quick description of each:
- Ru: a lovely dark grey tortie cat with amazingly dark green eyes. The boss of the three, as far as I can tell. Likes to give kisses.
- Tiger: a ginormous orange tabby with white patches. Big and goofy, he kind of reminds me of my dog Moose. Likes to play with his water.
- Kitten: a grey tabby with white patches. Very shy at first, and took more than a month to warm up to me and start coming up for attention.
As soon as I sat down on the little footstool, Kitten jumped into my lap. Ru was sitting up on a shelf behind me, and she nuzzled up against the back of my head. (Sometimes, when I’m sitting on the footstool, she’ll put her paw on my shoulder. It’s SO CUTE!)
Today, Ru kicked it up a notch on the cuteness scale when she started licking my hair — grooming me. So… I had Kitten on my lap, Ru cleaning me up, and Tiger sprawled at my feet. Tiger likes to play the “tummy trap” game — he flops out and looks at me like he wants his tummy rubbed, but when you reach out to do it, he gives you a play bite or gives a little “mip!” But I fall into the tummy trap every time!
A little bit more background to this story: the three cats are “residents” because they were abandoned at the B&B during the holidays. Their former owner was having some housing troubles and boarded the cats as a “temporary” measure, only to never return. So the three cats are now ours.
If it’s okay with the folks at the cats only boarding facility, I’ll be making a post about how you can adopt them if you’re interested and live in the vicinity of Portland, Oregon. I’d love to find them a happy, loving home!
