Diary of a Cat Care B&B: More Great Escapes

This has been a month of great escapes at the cats-only boarding facility.

The first escape artist — we’ll call her Z — was staying with us for a few weeks while her owner (who was new to the area) looked for an apartment. Z was a tricky cat to begin with, always squirming her way out of our hands when we tried to weigh her.

One morning, we came in to find the door of Z’s condo wide open! Panic ensued. We had a full house at the time, and three people scheduled to work that day. All other work halted as we went scurrying around the boarding facility and veterinarian’s office, looking for Z. We moved boxes… we rattled bags of treats… we called (and cursed) her name. Nothing helped.

I was in the back hallway when I heard laughter break out in the boarding facility. When I rushed back, I found a coworker in hysterics, pointing at the shelf above the condos in the main boarding room. While we’d all been frantically searching the building for Z, Z had been sitting pretty on top of the kennels. She hadn’t even left the room!

In the end, we needed a stepladder to get her down. Sneaky Z had us running all over — and she probably got a kick out of watching us silly humans freak out.

Our second escape artist — let’s call him B — was only a guest for a few days. But he sure made an impression on us! His very first night at the boarding facility, he figured out how to open his condo and make a break for it. I wasn’t working at the time, but I’ve heard that he managed to elude my coworkers for several hours. One of the gals on the veterinarian side of the building managed to corner and capture him

In the end, we had to tape the door of his condo closed so he wouldn’t get out again! What a clever cat.
