Spring break for most people means a few days off from work or school, time spent with family and friends, and maybe even a vacation! At the cats only boarding facility, spring break means we’re approaching full capacity.
At the end of last week, we had three guests. By the time the weekend was over, we had nearly forty! Our main boarding room is full — thirty cats in thirty condos — plus we have guests in the two isolation wards and one guy who came in with a hurt leg resting quietly next door on the veterinarian side. That’s a total of thirty-seven cats arriving in just three days.
Amazing how quickly things can change!
I look at some of our guests who were just tiny kittens over the winter holidays — they’re leggy teenagers now. A few months more and they’ll be all grown up. We had a pair of brothers (Otis and Oreo) come stay at the B&B in December. They were so small and cuddly and playful. Now they’re bigger and starting to outgrow that kitten personality. Oreo is still willing to snuggle up for a few minutes, but his brother isn’t. Otis is becoming quite the dignified little gentleman while his brother is clinging to playful kitten behaviors.
Sometimes the changes are merely physical. A Persian mix by the name of Jazz was full and fluffy over the winter — but when she was dropped off today, her coat was gone. That long hair had gotten matted, and her owners had her shaved.
We expect things at the boarding facility to be pretty crazy for the next week or so — many schools in the area have the entire week off, making it a good time for a family vacation. There will be around forty guests for the whole week… and then things will quiet down again until the next long weekend.
