Diary of an Overweight Mom: Progress!

Well, we’re a week into the New Year—resolutions have been made and countless ones have undoubtedly already been broken—but not mine. I resolved to finally lose my excess weight in 2007 and so far I’m staying on track.

To do this, I had to decide which “route” I wanted to take. Was I going to go low-carb, low calorie, or low-fat? Was I going to take supplements? How often was I going to exercise?

For me, the best option, at least for now, was to go low-carb. By reducing my carbohydrates, I find I can stay full longer, have reduced cravings, and yield more significant results. I decided against supplements, at least for now, because they usually make me feel very shaky. And as far as exercise—I’ll cross that bridge next week. For now, I’m getting my eating back in order.

So I started with a fury, and my weight is down to 176 pounds as of this morning. That’s a total of ten pounds since I started the diary a few months ago.

This year, I’d like to reach my goal weight of 130. That’s 46 pounds, which is completely doable. The problem is, it has always been doable, but my motivation and determination never stayed strong enough to make serious headway. This year is different. This is THE year that I stop talking and start walking. Many of you have joined me in your resolutions. Perhaps you too have stumbled along the way. Perhaps the best of intentions have slowly turned into an all out war on dieting. Either way, this is a new year, a chance to make new resolutions and to actually keep them.

I’m here to support you, to listen to you, and most of all, to join you. I hope you’ll stick around and keep reading my diary. It’s not always going to be pretty, but I promise you it’ll be honest.
