Morning Weight: 185.2
I cannot believe I just said that out loud.
So you’ll be happy to know (or at least I was) that I survived the dreaded DAY ONE. It’s often the hardest for me, especially when I’m trying to go low carb. I wake in the morning and see a banana on the counter and it suddenly becomes as tempting as a piece of cake. A mere slice of bread nearly makes me drool with want and Cheeze-its…let’s just say I have to hide them far, far away.
I won’t lie to you, although it’s tempting. I did “blow” it a bit at dinnertime. But other than that, I feel good about my dieting day.
Here’s what I ate—the good, the bad, and the “what the heck was I thinking.”
Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs, small handful of raspberries
Lunch: Chicken Salad (chicken cooked with taco seasoning—no, the seasoning packet isn’t no-carb, but a girl’s gotta have some flavor! The salad had lettuce, tomato, 2 TB cheese and salsa for dressing).
Snack: 2 ham and provolone cheese roll-ups
Dinner: McDonalds – Now before you go getting all, “what were you thinking?” on me, let me tell you that I had the Bacon Ranch Salad, which is low-carb allowed. I didn’t even have their dressing; I used my own from home. HOWEVER, and this is where I subtly blew it—my husband bought me a cheeseburger, “just in case.” Dear sabotaging man, what was he thinking!? Of course I ate it. I tried to resist it, really I did. But after awhile, as I watched it sitting there lonely on the counter, my habitual eating got the best of me and I ate it on the spot.
My overall impressions of the day? Not bad for a first day. Sure, it could’ve been better. I could’ve exercised (I didn’t). I could’ve skipped the burger (again, I didn’t). But I didn’t eat a Big Mac. I didn’t eat fries. I didn’t dive into my kids’ crackers at 4pm like I usually do, and I didn’t end up raiding the refrigerator in a fit of carbohydrate-denied lunacy.
Yes, I’ll step on the scale tomorrow and yes; I’ll try to get some exercise in. But today—today was rough. I had a ton of writing to get done. And my son, who just started kindergarten last week, had to come home early today because another kid kicked him in the face. And let me tell you, seeing my little boy with a huge knot on his forehead and knowing he had a bloody nose at school and that I wasn’t there to help him, would usually drive me to a truckload of chocolate. But not today. Today I was strong. Today I persevered. Today…I had a Diet Coke instead.
How was your first day? Haven’t started yet? Well get going, girlfriend! There’s no day like today. Let’s do this together! And hey, you don’t even have to record your weight for thousands of people to see—unless you want to of course. J
