Games are an excellent way to teach children lessons. Here is a dice game to encourage a child to learn counting from 1 to 12.
Number of players: 2 to 4
Supplies: Two dice
How Long Do You Need: 5 minutes+
Object: To be the first player to throw all the numbers from 1 to 12 in order.
Round the Clock can be played as soon as a child can recognize and count the dots on the dice. The game can be used to teach basic math, counting and sequence. Counting up to 12 is recommended unless you plan to use this game to teach counting.
1. Throw the dice. The player with the lowest amount gets to the first move.
2. The first player throws the dice. The object is to get a one. The dice are handed to the next person going in a clockwise direction. Players keep going around trying to throw a one. The round ends when each player had a chance to throw a one. (only one dye has to have a one to count)
3. On the next round, if a player did not throw a one in the previous round he has his chance now. The rest of the players are seeking to throw a two. A player can throw a two on one die or a one on each dice to obtain a two.
4. Play will continue in this fashion round by round with each person trying to throw the next number in the sequence. The players can count the number of dots on one dye or the number on both together to obtain the number they seek. For example, if a player rolls a 1 and a 4 then it can count as a 1, a 4, or added together as a 5.
5. The first player to go Round the Clock throwing all numbers from 1 to 12 in order wins. (
