Did You See It Coming?

Well, another celebrity couple is calling it quits. So who is the couple du jour? According to PEOPLE Magazine, it’s actress Kate Hudson and her husband, Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson.

The couple has been married for nearly six years and has a son Ryder Russell who was born on January 7, 2004—almost four years to the day after they married at the Colorado home of Hudson’s mother, Goldie Hawn and her longtime partner, Kurt Russell.

In 2002 Hudson told PEOPLE that she hoped her future with Robinson would bring “millions of babies.” For his part Robinson admitted: “I’m in such a better place as a husband, as a part of a family and a musician.” He even wrote a song about his new wife describing his attraction to her.

After their son was born Hudson was quoted as saying that her relationship with Robinson was “better than ever.” And each time rumors of marital discord surfaced they were quickly shot down by family, friends, even the couple themselves. Just last month, PEOPLE reported that all seemed well with the pair. When a reporter asked Hudson if the normally laid-back Robinson had any pet peeves about her, she replied: “I can sip on the same cold cup of coffee all day long. It just drives him nuts. My mom actually does the same thing and it drives Kurt nuts too.”

I am no psychic, but I did find it strange that Robinson didn’t accompany Hudosn to any of the premieres of her latest movie, “You, Me and Dupree.” What’s more, I will never forget the time when Hudson appeared on the “Rosie O’Donnell Show” prior to marrying Robinson and Rosie told Hudson to get rid of him. It sparked a backlash from some viewers, but Rosie didn’t back down. She flat out said that Hudson could “do better” and that she didn’t think Robinson was the right person for her. (She said it very nicely and with what seemed like genuine concern for Hudson.) Does anyone else remember that interview? I wonder what Rosie is thinking now? Maybe we will find out when she makes her debut on “The View” in a few weeks. Perhaps, Hudson will be one of her first guests… or perhaps we’ll never see her on the show again?
