If your genealogy research revealed that your ancestors came from one of the states in the New England area, you might want to take a look at the New England Historical & Genealogical Society. It is a lending library with a lot of resources that genealogists would have an interest in. They have many journals that are available for you to view online.
The New England Historical & Genealogical Society is the organization that figured out that actress Amy Poehler is an ancestor of Benjamin Franklin. The actual library itself is located in Boston, Massachusetts, and you can go visit if you happen to be in the area. They are open Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 9:00 in the morning, until 5:00 in the evening. They are also open Wednesdays from 9:00 inthe morning, until 9:00 at night. They are closed on Sunday and Monday, and you might want to check their website to find out if they will be open on a particular holiday. If you are a member of the New England Historic Genealogical Society, admission to their Research Library is free. Everyone else can purchase a day pass for $15.00.
Some of the journals that they have available for you to view online are: The Connecticut Nutmegger, The Virginia Genealogist, TAG, New Netherland Connections, and the New England Historical & Genealogical Register. You can search through these quarterly journals to find information on your ancestors. It may be possible to print out the information you find, if it is something useful. This is just a small portion of the research material that is available through this library.
They also have a blog that is updated daily, with quick bits of information that a genealogist would find useful. For example, today I learned that “Tenty” was a nickname for Tiffany, and that this nickname was a Puritan “virtue name”. There is a weekly genealogist newsletter that you can subscribe to if you would like to. Just enter your email address into the box, and you are all set!
