Diets are big business. You walk into any grocery store and you will see cereals, frozen meals, protein bars, and snacks, all bearing the logo of a big name diet such as Weight Watchers, South Beach, or Atkins. Other diet systems relieve you from the grocery store by sending you high priced meals directly to your door. Other gurus tell you to ditch it all and just eat high priced organic food along with costly supplements. Then, don’t forget to join a fancy gym and buy some premium work out equipment for your home. But, hey, if the gym isn’t for you then spend hundreds of dollars on at home DVD workout collection that also reminds you to buy supplements to enhance effects.
Stop. The. Maddness.
Thin and healthy existed before diets. Toned bodies existed before gyms filled with hard bodies in tight workout pants. You don’t need to spend money to lose weight. You need common sense, will power, and a goal. All of those are free.
I love to buy organic food and use coconut oil when I cook. However, that is not always possible. So, I buy one ingredient food (apples, chicken, bacon, lemons, garlic, etc.) and cook from scratch. It may not always be organic but it is not processed and I can control the calories. If you intend on going organic then do so little by little. You will get there and in the long run it really isn’t that much more expensive. Just do what you can, when you can.
If you have Netflix then you already have access to a home gym. I pay for Netflix anyway, and at $7.99 a month, I have no trouble affording it. If you have it, check out the workout videos. You will get a good workout with plenty of variety without spending more than you normally do.
Exercise does not have to be complicated. Eating properly and burning off calories through walking or running in the neighborhood will get you to your goal. Do not spend one more dime on anything that you believe will do the work for you. Your mind in the right place and motivated is all you need.
