Is it possible to eat a meal at your house without your cat participating in the experience? I would have to say it can’t be done at my house, but I will check with my cats to be sure and get back to you. The problem seems to be that my kitties want to be involved in every aspect of my life. Of course, this can be carried too far. I love my cats, but would not consider following them around every second of the day. (I guess that’s why I am the mommy and they are the cats!) In any case, sitting down to a meal can be a problem.
First of all, there’s the table or counter to consider. Unless it is very high off the floor, cats can and will jump up. This is in order to permit a cat’s eye view of what’s new and noteworthy. I admit that I do know of some people whose cats wouldn’t dare, but that is not the case at my house even though it probably should be. I feel my cats live in my house and as such are privy to most things in the house. To me, a pet should be a part of the family or it shouldn’t be in the house. While this line of reasoning may resonate well with animal lovers, it can and often does go off the deep end. I draw the line at sniffing my food, which for some reason all of my cats want to do. I can’t be positive, but I think that to their way of looking at the situation, if they just sniff it and don’t lick or eat it, what’s the big deal?
I think that for me the only solution is to eat out more often. They can’t follow me to the restaurant…or can they?
