This week’s dinner discussions are to cover when you have your Stake Conference. Since Stake Conference varies from stake to stake you will need to adjust your discussions accordingly. You will also want to adapt the discussion to cover topics that were taught at Stake Conference. Here are some ideas to help you have a successful week of discussion.
You may want to take the time to review the month’s Sharing Time theme with your children. You can also review the song that is being taught. This will help your children remember the things being taught in Sharing Time. If you have especially young children you may want to review last week’s lesson as well.
Before Stake Conference you can assign each of your older children a talk to take notes on. Then you can have each child lead the discussion one night. This takes a little preparation ahead of time. If you did not do this you may just ask each child what his favorite talk was on.
You may want to discuss how to implement the teachings of Stake Conference in your lives. For example if you were encourage to set aside food storage you may want to ask your children’s input or explain why you may not eat out as much over the next few month’s as you save money for food storage. You can also bear your testimony about any of the subjects, which were covered.
If you have the time you may want to share stories from the scriptures that teach the same principles taught at Stake Conference. For example you can teach about Pharaoh’s dream and the importance of setting food aside for emergencies to teach the principle of food storage. This may take a little extra planning, but it really will help your children realize that the teachings of the gospel transcend over time.
