This week’s dinner discussions are based on lesson thirty-seven in the manual. The Junior Primary and Nursery children are a week behind, so the discussions are on lesson thirty-six. You may want to discuss the talks from Sacrament meeting or the Sharing time theme in Primary as well. Keep the discussions upbeat and positive.
If you have a child in Nursery or Sunbeams he learned about being an example. The lesson talked about how Jesus Christ is an example for each of us. The children learned the story of Jesus and Zaccheus, which illustrates the importance of being kind. The children also learned about Jesus praying with the Nephites. They also learned the song “I Am Trying to Be Like Jesus.”
If you have child between four and seven she learned that she can demonstrate her love for Christ by doing the right. The children learned that Jesus Christ loves them. They discussed the things they can do to demonstrate their love for Him, such as keeping the commandments, being kind to others, and taking care of the church building.
If you have a child between the ages of eight and eleven he learned about Peter the Apostle. The children discussed some of the acts of service that Peter did on earth. They were encouraged to learn and memorize the ninth Article of Faith. The assigned reading for the week is Matthew 16:13-17 and Acts 5:29-32.
If you have a child between the ages of twelve and thirteen she learned about President Spencer W. Kimball. The lesson focused on the challenges that President Kimball faced in his life. He emphasized that he did not give in to adversity or allow it to overcome him.
For ages fourteen and older the Sunday School lesson was based on Hebrews. The lesson focused on Jesus Christ being our Savior, and that His gospel is the Lord’s new covenant with the people. The lesson also discussed the importance of faith and the Melchizedek Priesthood. General Conference is next week, but the reading for the following week is Acts 21-28.
The young women learned about chastity. The young men learned about understanding women’s roles. Each ward’s individual bishop determined the Priesthood and Relief Society lessons. Next week is General Conference. You can prepare for the lesson in two week’s by reading “Strengthening Our Families” lesson 19 in the Spencer W. Kimball manual.
