This week’s dinner discussion ideas are based on lesson four from the various manuals. You may need to adjust slightly according to the schedule that the ward is following. Remember this is a chance to reinforce gospel principles at home. It is important to keep the discussion positive and upbeat.
If you have a child in Nursery or Sunbeam’s he learned about praying to Heavenly Father. The lesson shared the story of Daniel and the Lion’s Den. It also discussed the proper way to pray. The lesson discussed the proper way to open and close a prayer, the importance of giving thanks and then asking for blessings. It also discussed the different times that we pray. You may want to give your child the opportunity to pray at the dinner table or to say family prayer this week.
If you have a child between the ages of four and seven she learned about Joseph Smith’s childhood. They learned what life was like for Joseph Smith as a child. They also learned about the time that Joseph had a serious infection in his leg and had to have an operation. This story showed Joseph’s faith and courage. The children then talked about how Joseph is an example for each of them. You can share your testimony of Joseph Smith with your children this week.
If you have a child between the ages of eight and eleven he learned that Jesus Christ is the son of Heavenly Father. The children discussed the scripture accounts of the angel appearing to Mary and to Joseph. They talked about the importance of Christ being Heavenly Father’s begotten son. You may want to discuss this with your children as well. The assigned reading is Luke 1:26-38.
If you have a child who is twelve or thirteen she learned about the importance of remaining pure in heart. The lesson discussed the reasons that we need to remain pure. The story of Ammon teaching King Lamoni who then became pure in heart was used to show that we can all become pure in heart again. The lesson discussed things that we need to do to remain pure in heart. You may want to share experiences that helped you to stay pure of heart.
For all members over the age of fourteen the Sunday School lesson was about John the Baptist and Jesus temptations. The first part of the lesson focused on how John the Baptist prepared the way for Jesus to come. The baptism of Jesus was also discussed. Then the lesson focused on the temptations of Christ. Next week’s reading is John 3-4.
The young women learned about the importance of keeping the commandments so that they can fulfill their divine roles. The young men learned about the companionship of the Holy Ghost and how to utilize it in their lives. The Priesthood and Relief Society lessons were based on the talks from the last Conference sessions. You should speak to your local leaders to learn which talks were used. Next week’s topic is determined by each individual presidency.
