Dinner Discussions 2007 Week 8

This week’s dinner discussions are based on lesson eight in the manuals. You may need to adjust the discussions according to your ward’s schedule. Remember to keep the discussions positive and upbeat.

If you have a child in Nursery or Sunbeams he learned about the creation of the day and night. The children are continuing the lessons on the creation. The children discussed the different activities that you do during the day and night. The children also learned about the Nephites and how the night stayed light when Jesus was born. This is a great week to talk about bedtime and other nighttime activities with your children.

If you have a child between the ages four and seven she learned that the church of Jesus Christ has a prophet. The lesson discussed prophets in the scriptures, and it discussed modern day prophets as well. This is a great time to bear your testimony of President Hinckley and to explain to your children the reasons why having a prophet is such a blessing.

If you have a child between the ages of eight and eleven he learned about Jesus cleansing the temple. The children discussed the different ways that we show respect to others. Then they discussed the people who were not being respectful in the temple. The children then discussed the importance of having respect in their relationship with Heavenly Father and Jesus. The assigned reading is Matthew 21:12-14.

If you have a child who is twelve or thirteen she learned about revelation. They discussed the many different reasons for revelation, and the importance of heeding revelation. They also discussed the ways that Satan deceives us. You may want to talk to your children about the ways to receive revelation.

For all members over the age of fourteen the lesson was based on Matthew 5. This is part of the Sermon on the Mount. The lesson focused on the Beatitudes, the higher law that Jesus taught and the importance of letting your light shine. Next week’s reading is Matthew 6-7.

The young women learned about improving communication skills. The young men learned about maintaining spirituality by taking proper care of their bodies and curbing their appetites and desires. The Priesthood and Relief Society lessons were based on talks from the last General Conference. The talks chosen will vary from ward to ward. Next week’s lesson topic is to be determined by the ward’s presidencies.
