Dinner Discussions 2008 April Conference

It is a good idea to incorporate General Conference into your dinner discussions this week. In fact you can continue to do this throughout the year by choosing one talk to review and discuss each week. Remember that you want to keep the discussion upbeat and positive for your family. You may ask each member of your family what his favorite talk was, and then take the time to review each of those talks in particular.

For your children this will be the first time that they have a new prophet. You may want to talk about how we sustained the prophet on Saturday. You may also want to review the video with your children, since it is unique to how we sustain people. Additionally you may want to spend some time talking about how we sustain our leaders. This can be a very long and deep discussion with your teenagers, but should be relatively short with younger children.

You may also want to review some of the talks about the life of President Monson. He spent some time speaking about his background as well. During this time you may want to display a picture of President Monson so your younger children can learn to recognize him. It is important that they learn to love and appreciate him as well.

Finally you should consider the talks that stood out the most to you about your family’s needs. Each family is facing different struggles at this time. This is a wonderful blessing of conference, that each talk can reach out and touch many people in different ways because of the Holy Ghost. As you pray about what your family needs to hear and do the most, you will know what talks to review. If you did not talk great notes, but know which speaker to watch take advantage of the video archives that are available online.
