It is the first week of the New Year. This is a great week, because everyone should have received the same lessons. You may also want to discuss your goals with your family. This would actually be a good discussion to have once a month throughout the entire year.
If you have a child in Nursery or Sunbeams he learned that we are children of our Heavenly Father. The lesson used the story of Moses in the Bulrushes to illustrate the Heavenly Father is watching over us. This is an important concept for your children to grasp, so you may want to discuss how much Heavenly Father loves each of them.
If you have a child between the ages of four and seven she learned that choosing the right makes her happy. The class learned that Heavenly Father and Jesus want them to be happy. They set forth laws and commandments that will help us to be happy as we follow them. They also learned what CTR stands for. You may want to discuss this with your child as well.
If you have a child between the ages of eight and eleven he began studying the Book of Mormon this year. The lesson focused on the Book of Mormon being a gift from God. It also discussed the translation of the Book of Mormon. The assigned reading is Joseph Smith History 1:29-35, 42-54, and 59-60.
If you have a child who is twelve or thirteen she learned about the Plan of Salvation. The lesson also discussed how choices and situations can tempt us to stray from the path that can help us return to live with Heavenly Father again. You may want to review these principles with your family as well.
For all members fourteen and older, the lesson was an introduction to the Book of Mormon. The lesson discussed how the Book of Mormon is the keystone to our religion. It also discussed the accounts of the witnesses. The lesson also discussed the blessings the Book of Mormon can bring into our lives. Next week’s reading assignment is 1 Nephi 1-7.
The young women learned about Heavenly Father. The young men learned about the Godhead. The Priesthood and Relief Society lesson topics were determined by the local presidencies. Next week we begin studying the new Joseph Smith manual. The first lesson is about the First Vision.
