Dinner Discussions 2008 Week 13

This week’s dinner discussions are based on lesson thirteen in the manuals. The Primary lessons are a week behind that due to the special Easter lesson. You may want to take the time to review the Sharing Time theme with your family throughout the week as well. Additionally if you have teenagers you may want to discuss a different conference talk each week.

If you have a child in Nursery or Sunbeams he learned about being grateful for animals. The children learned that God created the animals. They also learned that God saved the animals from the flood. You may want to talk about different animals and how your children should treat animals.

If you have a child between four and seven she learned about preparing for baptism. The lesson shared the story of Jesus being baptized. It also discussed the covenants that each person makes when she is baptized. The lesson discussed the things the children can do to prepare themselves for baptism in the future. You may want to review those points with your children.

If you have a child between the ages of eight and eleven he learned about Alma baptizing people at the Waters of Mormon. The children discussed the baptismal covenants in great detail. They discussed what it means to take on the name of Christ and stand as a witness. They also discussed what it means to bear one another’s burdens. The assigned reading is Mosiah 18:1-11 and 30-35.

If you have a child who is twelve or thirteen she learned about baptism as well. They based their study out of Doctrine and Covenants 20:37 when Joseph Smith first inquired about baptism. The lesson discusses the covenants that the children have made and applies them to real life situations. You may want to continue to do this with your children at home.

For all other members over the age of fourteen the lesson focused on the allegory of the olive trees in Jacob 5. The lesson focused on the allegory and the symbolism in the chapter. The vineyard represents the last days and the workers the members of the church. This is a great lesson, and if you missed it you should take time to review it. Next week’s reading assignment is Enos, Jarom, Omni, and the Words of Mormon (do that without getting the song stuck in your head!).

The young women learned about how the priesthood can bless families. The young men learned the importance of forgiving others. This week the Priesthood and Relief Society lessons were on chapter seven in the Joseph Smith manual. The lesson was on baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost. Next week’s lesson is chapter eight “The Everlasting Priesthood.”
