Dinner Discussions 2008 Week 17

This week’s dinner discussions are based on week seventeen in the manuals. Primary lessons are one week behind. You may need to adjust the lessons according to your ward’s schedule. Be sure to keep the discussions upbeat and positive. You can also discuss the Sharing Time theme as well.

If you have a child in Nursery or Sunbeams he learned that he is blessed to have a body. They learned about Daniel refusing to eat the king’s food because it was bad for his body. They discussed all the things that their bodies can do and how to take care of their bodies. You may want to extend this discussion at home.

If you have a child between the ages of four and seven she learned that Jesus can heal people. The children learned the story of Jairus daughter and how she was healed. They learned that through the power of the priesthood they can be healed now as well. They may have also talked about Jesus healing the Nephites. You may want to share an experience when you were healed.

If you have a child between the ages of eight and eleven he learned about Alma and Amulek in prison. The lesson talked about how the children can also stand for the right in difficult situations. They discussed the things they can do now to strengthen their testimonies for difficult times ahead. The assigned reading for the week is Alma 14:23-29 and Alma 15:1-13.

If you have a child who is twelve or thirteen she learned about the prophet. The lesson talks about how to gain a personal witness that the prophet is ordained of God. It teaches that the scriptures teach us to follow the prophet of God. It also teaches us the prophet tells us the things the Lord wants us to know. You may want to challenge your children to pray to gain a testimony that President Monson has been called of God.

For all members over the age of fourteen the lesson was based on Mosiah 7-11. The lesson recounts the history of the people of Zeniff. It talks about the wickedness of King Noah. It also begins to cover some of the teachings of Abinadi. The lesson emphasizes the importance of having righteous leaders and listening to the prophet. Next week’s reading assignment is Mosiah 12-17.

The young women learned about preparing to attend the temple. The young men learned about the Holy Ghost. The Priesthood and Relief Society lesson was lesson seven in the Joseph Smith manual. The lesson was on the gifts of the spirit. Next week’s lesson is also from the manual. It is lesson ten “Prayer and Personal Revelation.”
