Dinner Discussions 2008 Week 26

This week’s dinner discussions are based on lesson twenty six in the manual. The Primary lessons are one week behind due to the special lesson they had for Easter. You may want to review the sharing time theme, which is about missionary work with your family as well. Additionally you can talk about the heritage of the Pioneers.

If you have a child in nursery or Sunbeams he learned about loving his whole family. The lesson focused on extended family, such as grandparents, aunts and uncles, and cousins. The children learned that John the Baptist and Elizabeth were related to Jesus. You may want to talk to your children about their extended family, especially if you live far away.

If you have a child who is between the ages of four and seven she learned about the importance of saying thank you. The children reviewed the story of the ten lepers. The children then learned that saying thank you could help them to feel happy. They talked about times that they may say thank you to people. You may want to focus on gratitude and giving thanks this week with your child. An easy way to do this is to have her write some thank you notes to people.

If you have a child between the ages of eight and eleven he learned about Captain Moroni defeating Zerahemnah. This lesson talked about preparing for the fight by putting on armor, and fighting for your freedom and liberties. The children also discussed the armor of God as found in Ephesians 6. The reading assignment for the week is Alma 43:41-54 and 44:1-4.

If you have a child who is twelve or thirteen she learned about the Word of Wisdom. The lesson discussed the counsel given in the Word of Wisdom. It also discussed the blessings that come as a result of following the Word of Wisdom. The lesson also talked about the importance of standing together with their friends in order to keep the Word of Wisdom.

For all members age fourteen and older the Sunday school lesson was on Alma 23-29. The lesson discussed the conversion of the King of the Lamanites and then the conversion of so many Lamanites. They discussed the Lamanites changing their name to Anti-Nephi-Lehies. They also discussed their decision to join the Nephites. Next week’s reading assignment is Alma 30-31.

The young women learned about repentance. The young men learned about the importance of chastity. The Priesthood and Relief Society lesson was on obedience. It was the thirteenth lesson in the Joseph Smith manual. Next week’s lesson is lesson fourteen “Words of Hope and Consolation at Times of Death.”
