This week’s dinner discussions were based on lesson three in the manual. When you hold dinner discussions you should keep the tone upbeat and positive. Additionally you may want to choose a monthly theme to discuss or you may want to choose a conference talk to discuss each week.
If you have a child in nursery or Sunbeams he learned about the Plan of Salvation. He learned that he is a child of Heavenly Father. He learned that we were sent to earth to gain a body. Heavenly Father wants us to return to live with him. You may want to talk about why we were sent to earth and what we need to do to return to live with Heavenly Father.
If you have a child between the ages of four and seven she learned that she is a child of God. The children learned that they have spirits and physical bodies. They learned that their families love them and that Heavenly Father loves them. This lesson goes along with the Nursery lesson. You may want to simply extend the discussion about their purpose on earth.
If you have a child between the ages of eight and eleven he learned about Nephi obtaining the brass plates. The students were encouraged to memorize 1 Nephi 3:7 and the third Article of Faith. The children discussed the ways that they show faith in the Lord. The assigned reading is 1 Nephi 3:1-8 and 1 Nephi 4.
If you have a child who is twelve or thirteen she learned about the fall of Adam and Eve. She learned that this was a necessary part of the plan of salvation. You may want to review the plan of salvation with your family. If you have younger children, you can tie the discussions together.
For all members over the age of fourteen the lesson was based on the vision of the tree of life. The lesson discussed the symbolism of the objects and the people in the vision. It is important to follow the commandments, and live the gospel, so you can return to live with Heavenly Father again. Next week’s reading is 1 Nephi 12-14.
The young women learned about living the gospel everyday. The young men learned about being sons of God. The Priesthood and Relief Society lesson was on “God the Eternal Father,” lesson 2 in the Joseph Smith manual. Next week’s lesson is based on talks from conference, contact your local leaders for specific lessons.
