This week’s dinner discussions are based on lesson five in the manual. You may need to adjust according to your ward’s schedule. If you missed church this week or your meetings were canceled due to snow, this is a great chance to still talk about what you would have learned at church. Additionally you may want to spend some time talking about the succession of President Monson to be the next prophet.
If you have a child in nursery or Sunbeams he learned that Jesus Christ is the son of Heavenly Father. He learned about Jesus teaching in the temple and when Christ was baptized. Both of these incidences make references to the Father being different from Christ. You may want to talk about how much Heavenly Father loves your children.
If you have a child between the ages of four and seven she learned about making choices. She learned that each day she makes many choices. She also learned that some choices are good choices and have positive consequences and some choices are bad and have negative consequences. This is an essential thing for your children to learn, so you may want to spend time reviewing it and talking about the different types of choices with your family.
If you have a child between the ages of eight and eleven he learned about Nephi’s family receiving the Liahona to guide them through the wilderness. He also learned the story of Nephi breaking his bow, and the family realizing that the Liahona only worked when they were righteous. They learned the importance of trusting the Lord to help you through something difficult. The assigned reading is 1 Nephi 16:18-32.
If you have a child who is twelve or thirteen she learned about why we are here on the earth. The lesson talked about earth life and what we need to do while we are on earth. It talked about the challenges we may fast and the importance of learning and growing from those challenges.
For all members over the age of fourteen the Sunday school lesson focused on 1 Nephi 16-22. The lesson talked about the Liahona and the Lord guiding Nephi and his family through the wilderness. It also discussed the importance of faith and trusting the Lord as demonstrated by Nephi building the ship. Additionally the lesson discussed how Nephi was tied up on the voyage across the ocean and the results of that. Next week’s reading is 2 Nephi 1-2.
