This week’s dinner discussions are based on lesson forty-two in the manuals. You may need to adjust the discussions according to the schedule you are on. Remember to keep the lessons positive and upbeat. This is a time to reinforce the principles being taught at church in your home.
If you have a child in nursery or CTR 4, she learned about belonging to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She learned about how our church has the Priesthood, a prophet and the scriptures. You may want to talk as a family about the benefits of the priesthood, a prophet and the scriptures in our church, and how that makes us unique.
If you have a child between the ages of four and seven, he learned that the Church of Jesus Christ is on the earth today. He learned that the church used to be on the earth, but after the twelve apostles died people began to go astray. Then he learned about the Restoration of the true church through Joseph Smith. You may want to take time to bear your testimony concerning these events.
If you have a child between the ages of eight and eleven, she learned about Daniel and the Lion’s Den. The lesson talked about the importance of prayer and fasting. The lesson also talked about the importance of living the gospel even if you are persecuted for it. The assigned reading is Daniel 6:16-23.
If you have a child who is twelve or thirteen he learned about honoring his parents. They also talked about the story of Samuel and Eli in the Old Testament. The lesson contrasted Samuel’s behavior with Eli’s son’s behavior to show how you can honor or dishonor your parents. The lessons also stressed the importance of thanking their parents for all that they do.
For all members over the age of fourteen the Sunday school lesson continued to teach from Jeremiah. The lesson compared the gathering of Israel and the building up to the church with the Exodus from Egypt. The discussion focused on the greatness of these events. The lesson also discussed the importance of having God’s law written in our hearts. Once God’s law is written in our hearts it will help us to keep the commandments.
The Young Women learned about the courage to try new things. The lesson used the stories of Esther and Gideon to illustrate the concept. The Young Men learned about the importance of honesty. The Relief Society and Priesthood lessons were about faithfully enduring trials and opposition. This was lesson twenty-one in “Teachings of Presidents of the Church Wilford Woodruff.”
