Discovering the Real You

I have come to realize that there has to be some level of acceptance when it comes to your body. I have said it before and I will probably say it a dozen more times, that fitness should be a lifestyle. Your lifestyle is a reflection of who you are, the real you.

Is the real you a size 0? I have come to accept that it is not. In accepting that, I can also say that I would never want to be a size 0 because that is just not the real me.

Too often we aren’t willing to accept our real self. We want to be something that we really aren’t meant to be. Or we compare ourselves to someone else and strive to be and look like them. You are only setting yourself up for failure and disappointment.

I think in setting fitness goals part of your plan should be figuring out who the real you is. Once you have this picture in your mind, take time to determine if it is realistic. You will never succeed if you strive for something that is completely unattainable. If you never succeed you will give up.

I have recently come to realize something about myself. A sign that I was not accepting my real self was in the clothing that I chose to wear. I would mostly wear over-sized t-shirts. I preferred wearing light jackets to cover areas that I felt needed work. In essence I was trying to hide myself.

I began to get tired of the t-shirts, jackets and jeans. So I began to buy some new shirts. However they hung in my closet for a long period of time with the tags still on. I still went right for the t-shirt.

Well one day I put on a nice button down shirt and accessorized with some jewelry. My husband’s eyes lit up. He enjoyed seeing me in something other than a drab t-shirt. His reaction made me realize that I really had nothing to hide. That’s when I began to accept the real me.

Do you accept the real you? What are some things you do that show you are not? What are some things that you can change? It’s time to discover the real you.
