I haven’t reported as much on the Disney Fantasy as I did on the Disney Dream. The latest in the Disney fleet makes its maiden voyage in just a few weeks and yet this is the first that I’m reporting on it. That’s because there hasn’t been a lot to say; the Fantasy is quite similar to the Dream. It’s beefed up a bit, but it’s basically a bigger, fancier version of the Dream.
Now the Fantasy is set to make its first trips, however, and the time has come to talk about it. For the first time a christening of a Disney cruise ship won’t take place at Port Canaveral.
In fact, it won’t happen anywhere in Florida. According to the Orlando Sentinel, the Fantasy will be christened in New York City on March 1. It will sail into Manhattan and spend four days there before its christening, after which it will sail to Canaveral to await its first proper voyage on May 31.
For now, because it’s the newest ship, the Fantasy is focusing on trips to nearby points in the Caribbean. DisZine has a list of many of the announced Disney Cruise destinations for 2013. The Fantasy’s 2012 trips have already been announced, but its voyages in 2013 will be similar: seven-night cruises to stops throughout the East and West Caribbean, including St. Thomas and Grand Cayman. All Caribbean trips stop at Castaway Cay.
The Dream will also be focusing on Caribbean cruises, and including sharing the above load with the Fantasy it will also offer cruises for three, four, or five nights to the Bahamas and Castaway Cay. In the first four months of 2013 it will also stop in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The veterans of the Disney Cruise fleet will continue to explore farther destinations. Starting in May 2013 the Wonder will depart from Vancouver, taking guests on a seven-night trip throughout Alaska. In the first six months of 2013 the Magic will continue from its origin point of Galveston, TX, which it started in 2012, for tours of the West Caribbean.
And on June 1, 2013, the Magic will begin offering expanded European cruises. They’ll tour the Mediterranean and leave from Barcelona, and how many places they’ll stop depends on the length of the trip. Shorter four-night cruises focus on France and Spain. The seven-nighters will also hit up Nice, Florence, and Naples in Italy. If guests want even more time in the Mediterranean then they can book twelve-night cruises, touring all the aforementioned places plus spots in Greece, Malta, and even Croatia.
The newest Disney Cruise offering making its debut in 2013, however, is a partnership with Adventures by Disney. Guests on any of the seven-or-twelve-night Mediterranean Magic cruises will have the opportunity to experience some of the Adventures by Disney activities while they’re in port. It’s not clear if they’ll tag along with separate Adventures by Disney travelers, or if there will be separate times reserved specifically for cruise guests.
As always, for full cruise information and itineraries as well as booking details, visit the Disney Cruise website. Specifics on the AbD/Disney Cruise crossover offerings will be available in March 2012.
