Disney Family Movies on Demand

Are you tired of fighting with the Disney Vault? Does the Disney film you keep waiting to watch seem like it’ll never be checked back into the library? Would you like to learn some behind-the-scenes information about your favorite Disney films without having to track down the latest DVD or Blu-Ray? If you relate to any of these situations, then Disney Family Movies on Demand might be your perfect solution.

Disney Family Movies is a film program that’s joined up with many of the largest cable providers in the country. It’s basically what its full title implies: a channel that provides Disney Family Movies. It takes that one step further, also offering shorts, featurettes, and other bonus materials of the ilk usually found as DVD extras or specials on the Disney Channel.

Just one thing about Disney Family Movies is a bit misleading; it calls itself an on-demand service, but it’s more like an HBO channel than on-demand, or at least it’s a hybrid of both. If your cable provider offers Disney Family Movies, then it’s a subscription you can purchase for a monthly fee.

As far as I can tell you don’t have to then also pay for each movie or bonus short you want to watch; they come with the subscription. I have to admit that if I had to pay a monthly fee plus rental price for each movie, Disney Family Movies wouldn’t seem like a very good deal. But I believe it’s a channel to which one can subscribe, and rather than continually airing movies on a schedule throughout the day, it works like an on-demand menu where you can go in and select the material you want to watch.

Now for the icing on the cake: for five days starting today you can get a free week’s preview of Disney Family Movies. It’s the ideal opportunity for someone who likes the idea of Disney Family Movies but isn’t sure if they want to commit to the subscription.

I love the idea of the Disney Family Movies channel. I would totally sign up for the free week if I could, but unfortunately I live in the middle of nowhere. That means that my small cable provider isn’t on the list of those that carry Disney Family Movies (well, I don’t get cable anyway, I just use the internet, so it’s all moot).

But don’t worry: unless you also live in a very rural area, you should be able to sign up for Disney Family Movies. The list of providers is long, incorporating many of the nation’s largest, such as Comcast, Time Warner, Verizon, AT&T U-verse, Blue Ridge Communications, and more.

The Disney Family Movies free preview week starts on January 12 and lasts until January 16. Check out its official website for details, a list of currently available programs, sign-up information, and sweepstakes offers.
