Disney World is a favorite vacation destination for many families. Getting there often takes months of planning and budgeting. The last thing you want to have happen is for something like a hurricane to ruin your trip. Fortunately, Disney has a hurricane insurance policy that could help with that.
Nothing can stop the forces of nature. Bad weather conditions are unavoidable at times, and this includes hurricanes. It would be really sad if a hurricane prevented your trip to “the happiest place on Earth”, Disney World. There is the potential for that it could happen, however. In this case, Disney has got you covered.
You can think of Disney’s Hurricane policy as something like a temporary form of an insurance policy. If I am understanding things correctly, the 2011 Hurricane Policy is something that comes with the Magic Your Way packages that people have purchased through the Walt Disney Travel Company. It is also for people who booked room reservations directly with Disney at the Walt Disney World Resort, Disney’s Vero Beach Resort, and Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort.
In other words, if you, and your family, booked a room at one of those Disney World resorts, then you are eligible for for the Disney Hurricane policy. This means that the families who are going to be driving across the state, (or across the country), and staying in a budget hotel located outside of Disney World, will not be offered this type of hurricane insurance.
The Hurricane Policy from Disney is a temporary policy. It becomes effective if a hurricane warning is issued by the National Hurricane Center for the Orlando, Florida, area, (or in the area that your home is located in). It will also become effective if a hurricane warning is issued for the Vero Beach area, or the Hilton Head Island area. Guests of Disney World could be staying in one of those two areas. This hurricane warning needs to be issued no more than seven days before your scheduled arrival date.
If that happens, then you need to call in advance to either reschedule or cancel your Walt Disney Travel Company “Magic Your Way” package. You will not have any cancellation fees, or change fees, imposed upon you by Disney for doing so (under these circumstances). The policy won’t cover the cost of your airline tickets, car rental, or any type of vacation insurance you may have purchased from outside of Disney. It will, however, cover the cost of your tickets to Disney World.
This is a smart idea. It makes people who are thinking about spending their vacation at Disney World feel more secure about spending the money to do it, now that the Hurricane Policy offers them some financial protection in case the trip must be canceled due to a hurricane. The confidence that the policy provides could bring more customers to Disney World, and their resorts.
