It’s not just a Rogers and Hammerstein idea, but apparently there’s another rumor floating around that Disney may be considering adding a new theme park to its stable. This theme park would be located somewhere in the state of Oklahoma – likely near Oklahoma City. The weather is temperate, the central location is ideal and it’s been about 15 years since Disney launched a new theme park. (Can you believe Disneyland Paris the former Euro Disney is 15 years old?)
A press release issued yesterday is fanning the flames as it was announced that Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry will be joined by officials from the Walt Disney World Resorts on Tuesday (that’s today) to make an exciting announcement that is likely to put a spotlight on Oklahoma.
The interestingly named “Disney Universe” is speculated to be the next logical step following: Disneyland and Disney World. I remember that back in the 80s there were similar rumors about Disney planning to build a new project somewhere in the Midwest. It would be ideal for travelers there because they are equidistant from Disney World and Disneyland.
Can I imagine a Disney theme park in Oklahoma?
It would be awesome. That’s just a few hours’ drive from here and it would do a wonderful treat for the family. Of course, there’s an Oklahoma heritage exhibit due to be opening at Epcot at the end of September as a part of the Food and Wine Festival. So maybe that’s what they are going to be announcing.
There is any number of reasons to travel to Disneyland in California and even more to go to Disney World in Orlando, I think there’s definitely room for a Disney Universe in the Midwest – whether they are actually going to do it or not – we’ll just have to wait and see for the announcement. I’ll be the first one yipping for joy if it’s true.
