Disney Makes a Wish With Pirates Premiere

This is Disney’s Year of a Million Dreams will also be celebrated with the premiere of the highly anticipated Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End at Disneyland in Anaheim, California. Tickets for the premiere can be purchased for a price of $1500 a piece. Before you gasp at the price, understand that all the proceeds of this event will be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Making Dreams Come True

Making dreams come true is a Disney motto and that was before the Year of a Million Dreams. Disney will provide an initial donation of $1 million to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and they will underwrite the entire gala event. I imagine it will be a spectacular event and it’s the kind of splashy affair that brings to mind dreams and helps dreams come true.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children who suffer from life-threatening medical conditions. What can be more in line with making dreams come true and the Year of a Million Dreams than helping a dying child to achieve a wish that they might not otherwise be able to enjoy. According to their press release there are more than 6,000 wishes granted each year. These wishes include:

… visits to Disney Parks, Disney Cruises, meeting Disney Characters and visiting TV and movie sets, including “Pirates of the Caribbean” films, Disney-themed wishes continue to be the most popular requests.

At World’s End

In 2006, fans of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise were treated to a wild ride through the high seas as Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightly) and Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) were reunited. At the end of the film, Will and Elizabeth recruited Captain Barbosa (the villain from the first film) to help them rescue Captain Jack Sparrow who was taken to the end of the world.

The studio is excited about joining their film and the Make-A-Wish Foundation in this joint effort:

Disney is dedicated to making dreams come true and we’re extremely proud to be lending our support to the Make-A-Wish Foundation with this benefit World Premiere of ‘Pirates’ to make a difference. The Studio is extremely excited about the upcoming release of ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End’ and we’re pulling out all the stops to give it the send-off it deserves with a magnificent gala event at Disneyland. Disney has been a longtime supporter of this wonderful organization and we’re excited to be doing something special to bring smiles to the children and their families, giving them magical moments to share.

I can’t begin to afford to attend this event, but I applaud Disney for this effort. Pirates are infamous for their treasure and their booty – in this case, the treasure of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End will be shared with those who deserve it most: children.

Are you planning to see this third installment in the Pirates franchise?
