Disney on Ice 2012-2013 Season

disney on ice

A new year means a new group of Disney on Ice shows debuting for the public. All right, I know we’re over halfway through the year, but so many interesting things have been happening with Disney so far in 2012 that this got pushed back to the list. Plus, it’s unlikely that, given how new most of these shows are, they’re going anywhere for a while.

Speaking of shows that aren’t going anywhere: Disney on Ice: 100 Years of Magic is still going strong. It started in 1999 to commemorate the Disney legacy, and although it’s sometimes toured under a different name, the basic show is still happening. Each year it travels the country it adds more Disney characters to the lineup; the latest are from “Tangled.” Expect to see all the most famous Disney faces in this show, as it’s a celebration of the Disney greats.

From one of the longer running shows to the latest, new for the 2012-2013 year is “Rockin’ Ever After.” As one might be able to guess, this show highlights Disney music. Sebastian and his most talented pupil Ariel will of course have a place in the proceedings, as will the harmony-happy hooligans from “Tangled,” and all the inhabitants of Beast’s Castle, helping their master put on a concert for Belle. Somewhat perplexingly, the characters from “Brave” will also make their first appearance in Disney on Ice in this show, performing a Scottish jig for the audience.

Although they managed to make “Brave” fit into the theme via the jig, “Rockin’ Ever After” isn’t exactly the show one would think of for Merida and company’s Disney on Ice debut. If I had to guess, I’d expect to see them show up in “Worlds of Fantasy,” which is also touring this year. This show is a bit of a grab-bag, featuring characters from “Cars,” “Toy Story,” “The Little Mermaid,” and the Neverland Pixies. Bits of each of their stories from their movies are told in this show.

The Disney Princess on Ice show isn’t exactly touring this year, at least not under that name. But if you’re looking for all of your favorite princesses, you’ll want “Dare to Dream.” Rapunzel, Tiana, and Cinderella, each tell their stories of longing for their happy endings for the audience. They’re then joined by the rest of the Disney Princesses for a magical finale.

The characters from “Tangled” feature heavily in Disney on Ice this year, as they appear in all of the shows except one. Their last appearance is in “Treasure Trove: A Celebration of Disney Animated Greats.” If you’re a fan of Disney’s animated films, then this is the show for you. It’s packed with beloved characters from “Peter Pan,” “The Lion King,” “Mulan,” “Alice in Wonderland,” and so many more. If you want to see rare characters appear on the ice, this is your show.
