Are you dying to check out that Kraft Singles-Disney On Ice savings offer but can’t decide which live show appeals most to you? Never fear; today I’m going to outline all of the Disney On Ice tours traveling the country so you can decide which you’d best like to see.
Last year I posted an in-depth profile of the Let’s Celebrate extravaganza, so check out my prior blog for all the details on that show. Here is the scoop on the rest of the performances.
When I first read that there are two Disney Princess ice shows currently touring, I wondered what could possibly be the difference between the two. Well to be honest, there isn’t much of a difference between them.
I thought maybe Disney Princess Classics meant the focus would be more on the princesses of Disney’s Golden Era, like Snow White and Cinderella, whereas Disney Princess Wishes told the stories of later heroines like Ariel and Belle. But that’s not the case.
Both shows boast the exact same list of starring “princesses”: Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, and Mulan. They both even include special guest Tinker Bell, whom at least for Princess Wishes hosts the evening.
Perhaps the two tours, rather than each traveling the country, split various locations between each other. Or maybe the Disney Princess on Ice shows are so popular that two were created, slightly different from one another so parents don’t have to sit through the exact same show multiple times.
There does appear to be one minor difference between the two princess shows. Princess Wishes has more semblance of structure; the story revolves around each princess making a wish and then finding it granted. Instead, Princess Classics just seems to be a less focused showcase of the popular princesses.
Enough of princess, let’s take a look at the other two Disney On Ice Tours. Toy Story 3 On Ice doesn’t take much explanation; it follows the structure of the many Disney On Ice shows I remember from my childhood and remixes a popular film for the frozen stage.
However, don’t expect quite the same emotional punch of the movie. The ice show instead focuses on Woody, Buzz, and co.’s escape from daycare and the many adventures they have and new faces they meet on their way back home.
Mickey and Minnie’s Magical Journey, the final skating show currently on tour, is the leftovers of the Disney On Ice meal. That isn’t a bad thing, however; I find this show the most appealing because my favorites were always the ones featuring the widest variety of Disney characters.
What I meant by leftovers is that the Magical Journey has the least narrative organization of all the shows; it’s just a story featuring a random assortment of Disney characters. But when the characters are this fun, who cares?
Mickey and Minnie take a, you guessed it, magical journey in which they visit many of the lands within the Disney Kingdom. They meet up with Ariel and Sebastian, Peter Pan and Tinker Bell, Lilo and Stitch, and Simba and Nala. This show, more than any of the others, seems the one that most exults in the varied captivating worlds Disney has to offer.
I found the Disney On Ice ticketing website tricky to navigate when trying to determine which shows are coming to my area. You can check it out for more details, or instead head to Ticketmaster, where you’ll actually purchase tickets, for much clearer information on when the show of your choice will be near you.
