In my post on hybrid homeschooling, I talked about combining homeschooling with distance learning or local classes. Here is the list of Distance Learning Programs you can use.
Beach High School is an independent study program for teens in high school. This alternative program to high school allows students to work at their own pace and in their own style. Students can earn a diploma by submitting a portfolio. Fees vary depending on whether you need consultation, enrollment, graduation services, or continuing enrollment.
Blueprint Education Formerly Phoenix Special Programs and Academies, founded in the year 1969, Blueprint Education is an accredited program for grades 7-12. They provide self-paced print and internet based course options. Homeschool students receive middle or high school credits with each completed course. Tuition is approximately 125.00 per credit.
Boston School is an accredited alternative school. It supplies course studies in the form of textbooks, computer programs and is open to materials from home as well. Boston school provides record keeping forms and instructions to member families, and will accept records from previous schools. This school is located in California, and works as an umbrella school. Prices are not specified.
Calvert School Home Instruction Department offers a “K-8 curriculum that will tell you exactly what to do and what to learn, down to the exact spelling words.” (http://homeschooling.gomilpitas.com/) Teacher advisors are also available to guide you along the way. Calvert offers live, online classes for middle school students that offer a classroom environment without ever leaving the home. Tuition is starts at $275.00 a year for pre-k. For 8th grade, the costs can be as high as $1095.00 a year.
By giving this list of distance learning programs, I am not necessarily advocating any of them, just making you aware that they exist. You will also want to look at my curriculum glossary.
