In my post on hybrid homeschooling, I talked about combining homeschooling with distance learning or local classes. Here continues the list of Distance Learning Programs you can use.
University of Missouri – Columbia High School “MU High School offers a convenient, credible option for homeschool students, rural students seeking college preparation, gifted students seeking challenges, or students who need to catch up on a few courses. MU High School offers a diverse and comprehensive curriculum that includes over 180 courses.” Elementary and Middle school students can take online courses as well. Middle and high school classes cost approximately $140.00 per half unit.
West River Academy has an unschooling approach to education. They are “fully accredited as a private alternative community school by the National Association for the Legal Support to Alternative Schools”. They have a very interesting High School Diploma program for homeschoolers. To participate, students must have been enrolled in the program for all of their previous high school years, or transfer in from another school or program. The 6th month diploma program consists of students submitting six monthly reports and submits a transcript. West River Academy costs $285 per year and $350 for the high school diploma program.
Westbridge Academy specialized in gifted students. The school’s classical curriculum is specialized for all students grades pre-K-12. School for academically advanced homeschoolers, gifted students and those looking for an accelerated program. There are also online classes available. Costs vary.
Worldwide Independent Distance Education Academy “Worldwide IDEA is an accredited educational institution, providing a private academy open to all home-educated students and a DoDEA Remote Location academy with certain eligibility requirements.” This online school allows parents to choose curriculum, unlimited support from teachers, and accredited transcripts and diplomas. Tuition costs 900 per year for the first child. Additional students are discounted.
By supplying this list of distance learning programs, I am not necessarily advocating any of them, just making you aware that they exist. You will also want to look at my curriculum glossary.
