By now you should have gathered all of the supplies that you need for making your household notebook. If you have not accomplished this yet, I strongly urge you to consider this method of household organization. For years it has saved my family a lot of time and money.
So it is now time to focus on the dividers and categories.
No two household notebooks are ever the same. Each family has different needs, and has a different focus on family life. For a homeschooling family, they won’t necessarily need a school or field trip section, however they might wish to include a category called Education, where they can store upcoming homeschooling events, or information that helps them with their homeschooling needs. When I started my household notebook, I was homeschooling my son. Boy have things changed since then, my binder is twice the size and contains MANY more categories.
Typical categories include things such as Education/School, Financial, Legal, Medical/Health, Time Management/Calendar, Family and Home Management, Phone, Meal Planning or Kitchen Management, Travel and Employment.
Not every household is going to have every single category listed above, and some might have different categories. For instance, I own my own business so I have a category for Home Business, and my children each have activities that they participate in, and I have plenty of paper work from each one, so I have a category called Activities.
The important part is to get enough categories that it helps to keep your organized. Don’t worry, Monday I will show you samples of items that can be placed in each category and how to organized the categories so you do not have repetitious categories that could be contained into one.
If you have any questions at this point, do not hesitate to ask. I will again repeat how much time and money this whole concept has saved me both as a single mother, and now as a large family. It is amazing when everything comes together. Being organized is the biggest money saver out there!
