I recently posted a blog about the excitement surrounding national scrapbook conventions. The hugely popular events attract scrappers from around the world, including men.
Yes, real men scrap.
At least that’s the word from an artist friend of mine who happens to be a guy… and who actually has designed some amazingly detailed scrapbook layouts.
I should clarify that he doesn’t scrap in the traditional sense. Rather than attend crops or meet up with fellow scrappers at the local craft store on weekends, my very masculine friend designs scrapbook pages that are used as store samples. He’s paid by companies that sell scrapbook tools and embellishments to work his magic by putting all of the materials to use on a single layout. Customers come in, drool over the page, get inspired, and then purchase the items that are featured in the sample.
So, yes, he is getting paid to scrapbook. However, he assures me that if he had the time and energy, there is a good chance he would scrap for fun and not just to make ends meet.
What would he scrap? What would any guy feel comfortable scrapping?
One subject immediately pops into my head: sports.
If your guy is a golf nut, then he might be inspired to create a layout featuring photos taken of him playing 18 holes at his favorite course. A scrapbook is also a great place to display photos taken at a PGA event. If he has shots of himself with golf legends he could create an entire layout complete with autographs, photos, souvenir golf tees and an event program.
Dads can also get in on the action by putting together layouts with the kids. Photos and memorabilia from dad and son fishing trips or an annual camping expedition are awesome material for a memorable page design. A simple fishing layout could be titled “Catching the Big One.” Embellish the page with fishing-themed stickers and die cuts, and don’t forget to preserve some fishing line and a little fake bait.
Do you know guys who scrapbook?
