Do Not Call List

I just finished moving and in the process received a new phone line. At first, I did not register my new phone number with the Do Not Call List as my old number was. I now realize how spoiled I was for the last five years being on the Do Not Call List.

Some of you may not even know what the Do Not Call List is or you may be like me, blissfully enjoying the silence. Either way, I thought my recent experience might be worthwhile to share with you all.

The Do Not Call List is a government organization that prevents you from receiving unwanted telemarketing calls. It is simple to use, either call the phone number from the phone you want blocked or register online. All the information you need can be found at the website www.donotcall.gov or http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/donotcall/. You will need to renew the registration every five years, so if you are recently starting to receive some calls… it might be time to renew.

The reason to be on the list is more than just to avoid the annoying ring of the phone during the dinner hour. The reason has financial implications as well. Organizations can only call you if you are a current customer. Therefore, it prevents you from temptation by specials offers you may not need, as well as tricky sales tactics.

I have truly been shocked by the calls I have received since I moved. Phone recordings saying my car warranty is expiring as well as special vacation sweepstakes winnings. I have not entered any contests and I don’t have a warranty on my car. When I get a call indicating that my car warranty has expired and I must react immediately or lose the opportunity to renew… I know this is a sales scam. However, an unsuspecting soul who just recently bought a new car may not have the same intuition. You may fall for this sort of scam.

If you register for the Do Not Call List, then only your own warranty company would have the right to call you. Not just any random sales person with a slippery line to get you to buy something you don’t need. Protect yourself and sign up for this service today!
