Fear can be crippling. There are many different aspects that can cause people to be fearful. Church leaders counsel us that we do not need to fear, as long as we are doing our best to live the commandments of the gospel. Currently there is much to be concerned about in the world and country. We are at war, as well as the economic issues that are gripping the nation. In addition to that there is a change in moral values that has been taking place over the last several years. It is easy to begin to doubt and worry about raising a family at this time. However, we have been given specific commandments that will help us through the difficult times.
Family home evening, family prayer and scripture study gives us the opportunity to teach our children the gospel. This will give our children the knowledge and testimony that they will need to face the trials and temptations they will have in their lives. It also helps us to bring our families closer together in a time when family life is becoming more and more spread out.
We have long been counseled to be free of debt and to have a reserve of food and money on hand. This would alleviate concerns over the economy. If we do not need to worry about paying back money we have borrowed our current resources will help us more during difficult times. Additionally food storage can helps us during difficult times or job loss. If we have followed the counsel, then we do not need to worry.
Additionally we should be constantly working on our personal relationships with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. As we work to bring our lives more in line with gospel principles we can have the peace that this brings into our lives. It is much easier to handle trials and other events when you know that you are not facing the problems alone.
