The truth is, I have plenty of days in my home business when I just get by. I know that I have cautioned against complacency and offered advice for ways to get energized and stay motivated, but a person just cannot sustain that high level of energy forever–at least this person can’t. Sure, I have plenty of days where everything comes together and I am really on my “A” game–but there are also those days where I feel neither brilliant, nor amazing, but I know I still need to show up and work…
One of the good things about getting a business launched and getting it to a place where it isn’t quite so precarious–is that one can have bad days or uninspiring days and it doesn’t have to be such a big deal. In the beginning months of my home business, I felt like I had to be “on” every day and bring everything I had to my desk or computer every single day too. Now, I’ve learned that I can still be reasonably productive, even if I am definitely NOT brilliant, and there is no way that anyone will be amazed at what I produce on a particular day. Perhaps, it all balances out and when I have those few stellar days–they can make up for some of the more apathetic and uninspiring ones?
Getting reasonably good at what you do and getting your business to a relatively stable place can afford you a little leeway in the efficiency and brilliance department. A college professor once told me that his success was only a fraction brilliance on any given day–the rest could be attributed to having learned his field and showing up to work. I think this can be applied to our home businesses too–while we don’t want to make a habit of “mailing it in”–we can give ourselves a break and accept that every day will not be incredibly motivating nor incredibly inspirational.
