I posted a Facebook status this week that managed to get quite a few likes. Yet I had hesitated on posting it because I didn’t want to sound like I was bragging.
It was on a day that was absolutely gorgeous outside. Low 70’s with a breeze.
I managed to finish my day’s work an hour before my children were expected home from school. So I went outside with my Kindle Fire and sat in my favorite corner of the yard.
In addition to enjoying “Words with Friends,” reading and looking at my email, I decided to post a status on how blessed I was feeling about working from home. I mentioned that I was able to finish my work before my children were home from school and sit outside to enjoy the beautiful weather.
I also mentioned that I had an online meeting scheduled for later in the evening but was lucky enough to attend it in my jammies. Yes, I was feeling pretty good about my circumstances.
But I try not to say much about these times for a couple of reasons. One, I don’t want others to feel like I am rubbing it in their face and two, I don’t want people to get the impression that everyday is like this.
Because there are other days when I work from the time I get up until late in the evening. In between I am running my kids here and there, trying to get dinner on the table and otherwise attempting to manage a harried day.
I definitely might have left the impression with some that this is my life on a daily basis. While that isn’t the case, I do greatly appreciate those moments I am able to enjoy because I work from home.
While I do have many challenging moments, I suspect that most people who work outside their home don’t get to experience some of the glorious moments that I do. So perhaps I should really keep it to myself.
Do you ever find yourself bragging (intentionally or not) about working from home?
