My son got Christmas presents before he was ever born. When I was five months pregnant, we celebrated Christmas with both sides of the family. I was tickled to open gifts from both sets of soon-to-be grandparents for my baby boy who was due in April. It was like a mini baby shower. He even got his own little stocking. The same weekend my dad got to feel my son kick for the first time, too. What a fun way to celebrate the holidays!
Christmas is a fun time to celebrate your pregnancy and the newest member in your family. Buying gifts for your bun in the oven can make everything seem that much more real, too. They are not just a bump under your oversize shirt, they are your child, and next year they will be tearing into those stockings and gifts with their own chubby little fingers.
Things you might buy for your baby: newborn clothes, shoes, tiny socks, diapers, hats, soft rattles, teething rings and toys. Pretty much anything you might need when your baby is born is fair game! Have fun with it, too. Pose with the gifts near your belly for a picture. Tell your baby what he or she got for Christmas. (Don’t act like you don’t talk to your belly already.)
It can also be fun to give presents on your baby’s behalf. Give your parents some type of gift that says “grandpa” or “grandma” on it, like a sweatshirt or a mug. Frame an ultrasound and add the message, “I can’t wait to meet you!” Sign all of your Christmas cards with your baby’s name, or just “baby” if you don’t know the gender yet (or you don’t want to reveal your name). This is even a great idea for announcing your pregnancy if it is still early on. What a way to surprise your family!
