Do You Have Pictures of Your Kids in Your Wallet?

I was looking through some photos yesterday and realized that I have a gazillion pictures of Tyler but I don’t carry any pictures of him in my wallet. I remember back in the day when you would ask a person if they had kids and out would come this accordion montage of that person’s offsprings. Today, that same person is more likely to whip out their cell phone and show you a few digital images. That’s exactly what I would do. It got me to thinking- do parents still carry photos of their kids in their wallets or have we gone totally digital? I decided that I was going to get a few photos of Tyler and put them in my wallet immediately.

Then I realized I didn’t have any recent wallet-sized recent photos of him. I found a picture of him when he was three months old and some taken with Santa and the Easter Bunny. The most recent one was taken in 2005 when he played softball. But no recent photos. I was lucky that Katrina sparred all of his baby pictures. But they are all 4 x 6 images. Pictures of him at the park or zoo or at home. And tons of photos with my thumb in the corner and several had shots of him headless. Quite a few are so blurry I wondered why the heck I was holding on to them anyway. I am thankful that I finally bought a digital camera. At least I am not wasting my money developing blurry shots! But on the other hand, I believe that having a digital camera stopped me from taking him in to have professional portraits taken.

I didn’t buy his school day pictures (I still have the proofs though); he had this frightened look on his face like he was about to be eaten by a large grizzly bear. Hopefully over the years he will take better pictures and I will be able to fill my wallet with my little darling. But for now, I have two pictures that I will carry with me, even though they are old. I will carry them with me to remind myself how blessed I am to be his mother. And the next time someone asks me if I have kids I am going to whip out my wallet and show them my little angel.
