Funnily enough, picnics are among the most romantic of dates and they can be very inexpensive. But there are plenty of people who do not know how to plan a picnic. If you are looking to impress your spouse, invite them on a picnic and enjoy the quality time together.
Here are a few tips on how to make your picnic ideal:
Location, Location, Location
- On the floor in front of a fireplace
- Your backyard
- The mountains
- The park
- The beach
- Outdoor theater
Food for your Picnic?
Make the food yourself if you are trying to impress your spouse with your gourmet skills. It takes just a little bit of fore planning. You don’t have to cook food for the picnic because you can do cold food items like fruits, olives, sandwiches, cheese, crackers and even just sliced deli meat along with some vegetable dip or caviar (if that’s to your taste)
Bring wine to drink if you enjoy that. There are even very nice plastic glasses that can be used as wine glasses. Sparkling water is romantic as well. For the more casual of events, bring soda, juice or bottled water to sip.
Pack something sweet to eat for dessert. If you are carrying a cooler, pack in some cheesecake or fruit and chocolate to dip it in. Chocolate covered strawberries are wonderfully delicious and romantic.
Picnic Items
You know where you are going and you know what food to bring, but you need just a few other items to make the picnic ideal for both you and your spouse. A picnic blanket is the most obvious choice, of course. The last thing you want to do is spoil your clothes with grass stains and if you plan a late day picnic, the blanket can double as a wrap for the two of you to snuggle up in and gaze up the stars.
You’ll need napkins, plates, glasses and utensils. Depending on whether you buy a picnic basket specifically for this or you build your own, you need to make sure you have what you need with you for the picnic.
You might also consider taking along a small CD player or radio to provide you and your dining partner with some soft music. Not everyone wants music for their picnic – but imagine the romance of being able to waltz under the stars – it’s definitely a way to wow him and her both! I’ve been on outings where my date brought his guitar and played that – now that’s a neat trick.
Depending on your destination, you may hike to the picnic site or go hiking afterwards. You might take along the dogs and play some Frisbee with them or with each other. You might take along cards and play a few rounds of gin rummy or maybe you just curl up on the blanket and enjoy a wonderful conversation.
Don’t forget to wear bug spray and sunscreen wherever your destination is and bring along a camera so you can capture the memories for the future. The reason why picnics are so attractive is while all of these ingredients are vital, a picnic is about whom you are with and not where you are.
