It’s easy to say you are on the market and you are looking for love. It’s easy to say you are looking for that special someone that you can settle down with for the rest of your life. It’s easy to say you’ll know him when you see him, but that’s not always the right things to be looking for. Whether you are male or female, you are looking for a partner who can fulfill your needs. Do you know what those needs are?
Can you sit down and write out a list of the needs you require your future partner to meet? Don’t write down what you need in the partner, write down what YOU need and what you want your partner to do for you.
It’s Not Just About the Person, It’s About The Relationship
When we are considering who we want to marry or what we would look for in the person we would like to marry, we are looking for a relationship and what we can get out of it. We are looking for someone to fill our emotional, physical and mental needs. Among those we might write down:
- I need a father/mother for my children
- I need someone who can help me with physical labor around the house
- I need a sexual partner that I can depend on and trust
- I need someone who is strong in their convictions and beliefs, who can stimulate me mentally and challenge me when I need it
- I need someone who can nurture and care for me, as well as protect me
- I need a partner to share the good times and the bad
- I need someone who is mine, who can see me laugh and cry and will not judge me
This is just a sampling of what we are looking for, what you need may not be what your partner needs and what they are looking for in you may not be what you are looking for in them. So it’s important to recognize this. Each of us is unique and we each bring something different to a relationship. Your husband may need your strength and power of faith while your wife may need your toughness and ability to make the hard decisions.
So what are you looking for in a spouse?
