Do You Love Your Pediatrician?

In the last year, I had to switch pediatricians because of moving. I really liked my last pediatrician and was sad about having to make a change. I asked him for a recommendation, and he knew of a pediatrician that “a lot of people seem to like” that was super close to my house. So, I decided to go to him.

Little did I know that my baby would have so many complexing issues. I’m kind of a stressed out mama a lot of the time, so his personality fit perfectly with me in that he is very laid back, and doesn’t stress at all. However, sometimes, I worried he didn’t stress enough about some of the issues I am currently going through with my little baby right now.

But, this week, he won me over 100%!! My husband is a physician assistant, and has a stethoscope and otoscope at home to be able to keep an eye on our kiddos when they get sick. It is so nice that he can check their ears and stuff like that. So, my 5 month old got sick this weekend. His lungs started to sound really bad, so my husband suggested we take him in for a breathing treatment. We did that, and he started to improve. Then, Monday night rolled around and a fever popped up all of a sudden. Not a good sign when baby is getting better. So, my husband checked his ears, and sure enough they were red. Since he cannot prescribe medication for family members, we still have to go in to get antibiotics. So, I called to make an appointment. My pediatrician was already booked for the day. I was bummed. So, I made an appointment with another doctor in his office.

When I was in the waiting room, my doctor was just coming into work through the side door (which comes into the lobby) and he saw me. He stopped and gave me a questioning look (because we just had a well visit). I said that I thought my little guy was sick with an ear infection, but couldn’t get in to see him. He just looked at me and said, “just come on back!” He took me back, checked his ears, and wrote a prescription, and I was done.

I was so grateful that he not only knows me well enough by face to know I am his patient, but took the time to squeeze me in before he had even had a chance to put his bags down. Has your pediatrician done anything amazing for you?
