Video sharing sites like YouTube and Google video are quickly gaining in popularity. Millions of people everyday are uploading videos of themselves, their families, and their friends doing crazy and off the wall things as well as simply telling the news from the world around us.
How many of you upload video to the web?
I am an avid video editor, actually, video editing is my day job. I love to shoot my own films, and at one point I was carrying a camcorder with me where ever I went. That said, I haven’t really gotten into the whole internet video fad.
It’s not that I’m particularly wary of uploading anything I’ve done to the internet, it’s just that I haven’t really ever shot anything I think is really appropriate for the occasion. In my old age I’ve gotten into the mentality “I’m not going to do it if he doesn’t pay me” for things that other people are making a serious profit with. I can say with some certainty that YouTube is making a pretty penny, and I think giving them my video for free so they can make more pennies is absurd.
Apparently someone at YouTube felt the same way. Soon YouTube videos will start paying content submitters for their videos based on how many times the video is viewed. The way the program is currently being pitched users who upload their own video to YouTube can opt to ads on it. The ads will play like commercials before the video starts, and the videomaker will receive a small amount of cash for their efforts.
Part of the draw of these websites right now is that you can instantly watch videos on demand. Having ads beforehand will more than likely deter some viewers from watching videos, or will it?
Do you currently upload video to YouTube or something like it? Would you be more likely to do so if you were paid?
