Does “Undecorating” make you want to Redecorate?

Christmas came and went then New Year’s and now Epiphany is over as well. There really aren’t too many more excuses I can think of to avoid taking down the rest of the Christmas decorations and the tree. My youngest isn’t happy and I just don’t know what the puppy will do for fun when it’s all put away.

I’ve been taking some stuff down here and there over the past few days, but as I began to return the regular items to their places it occurred to me that I’d really like to do something different. I can’t really redecorate at the moment, until we’ve recuperated from Christmas shopping. Still, I think I’ll at least rearrange some things instead of putting it all back into the same old places.

Do you get the urge to redecorate when you’re taking down Christmas decorations? I seem to feel this way each year. Even when it’s an arrangement I like, I just think, “Hmmmm, maybe if I did it this way instead…”

The hall bath has seen its share of color over the past few months. Maybe that’s part of it. It went from deep purple towels and coordinating accessories to orange and cream with silk fall leaves and roses to Christmas lights and bright red towels. That’s the best part about having a neutral backdrop, being able to simply change out a few things for a new look.

Instead of putting the purple towels back up, perhaps I’ll just pull towels from the other bathroom and make it different for a little longer.

The master bedroom could use a few new touches as well. Now that it’s no longer gift wrapping central and the closet is not longer the Christmas gift stash, there’s a little more room to work. Something soft… maybe blue?

There is some blue fabric left over from another project. A good way to see if you like a color you have in mind in a certain room is to spread some of that color around the space. Lay fabric over the bed or hang it over the curtain rod. Too much? Fold it down to pillow size and place it on a bed or chair. Does that color work well as an accent?

These are easy ways to get an idea before you start doing the work or spending the money. Happy decorating in the new year.
