Dogster and Catster

I’ve mentioned Dogster and Catster before — these websites let you make pages about your own pets! It’s tons of fun picking and posting pictures, writing up your pets’ biographies, and even writing a diary for your fur babies. Joining and posting on these sites is totally free. But as Dogster and Catster grow, the sites offer more and more!

Each month, one lucky pet who joins Dogster or Catster Plus (a paid membership) wins a pet insurance policy for a year. The Plus membership lets you do more with your pets’ web pages if you so desire; you get access to special photo borders, virtual treats for your friends, and more.

Another thing I love about Dogster and Catster is the community. On Dogster alone, there are more than 1600 groups you can join. Some are location based — if you want to find pet lovers in a certain area — and some are breed based. The largest group on Dogster is “For the Love of Pugs” with almost a thousand members! You can also create your own group and invite friends to join. I keep an eye on the “Adorable Adoptees” group and the “Ban Stupid Legislation” community, where people discuss breed-specific legislation.

The sites are branching out and teaming with big names like PetSmart and the ASPCA. They recently added a feature where you can search for pet-friendly jobs, thanks to SimplyHired. I miss the days of bringing my Miko to the radio station with me every day!

If you love Dogster or Catster as much as I do, you can get a free bumper sticker just by sending a self addressed, stamped envelope to the folks in charge.
