When you work from home, you are often balancing work with other things in your life, such as taking care of children and taking care of your home. You need a lot of energy to be able to accomplish everything that you do each day. Sometimes that energy is hard to come by.
Here are a few different ways that you can boost your energy level without reaching for the coffee pot (again). If you can pinpoint an underlying cause for your lack of energy you can make a big difference in how you feel. One major culprit of low energy is lack of sleep. It really is important to get those eight hours of pillow time each night. Of course you don’t cut yourself short on sleep just for the fun of it; you are busy and probably stay up late trying to get things done. However, even if there are many things competing for your time, getting adequate rest will make your awake time more productive because you will have more energy. What’s more, getting your zzz’s can help you avoid catching colds and other illnesses.
You may have to readjust your work schedule or other commitments in order to get your eight hours a night. This is not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, it can be a great opportunity to reassess everything that you have on your plate and determine what your priorities are. You may even be able to identify things that are stressing you out. If you discover sources of stress, see what you can do to reduce or eliminate them because stress is also a major energy drain.
If you get plenty of sleep and you do not have much stress yet you still feel constantly drained, a visit to your doctor may be in order. Fatigue is a symptom of many illnesses like diabetes, lupus, and fibromyalgia. If you do have an underlying medical condition, your doctor can help you learn to manage it so that you will not be so tired all of the time. If your doctor visit turns up a clean bill of health, that’s great. Keep trying the other suggestions until you figure out what energy boosting strategy works for you.
Other ways that you can reclaim your energy include starting the day off right with breakfast that contains plenty of protein and whole grains, choosing healthful afternoon snacks over sugary ones, and exercising regularly. Oh, and about that coffee. After about the third cup or so, the energizing effect is lost. Hopefully implementing some of these energizing strategies will have you feeling great soon. You are likely to enjoy your work and everything else more now, and you deserve it. What wonderful things can you do for your business, your home, and your family now that your energy is at an optimal level?
