Don’t Get Rained Out of the Parks

When you travel to Disney World or any Disney park for that matter, rain may sound like a bad thing – but unless it’s a hurricane, rain can actually be pretty great to your Disney experience. Be sure to pack some rain ponchos in your luggage and you can pick them up pretty cheap at your local Wal-mart. If you go with a bright color scheme, it will help you keep track of each other while moving around the parks.

The Perk of Rain

Lots of people stay indoors when it rains, so lines are shorter at the parks. During our honeymoon in ’99, it rained one afternoon while we were visiting Epcot. We grabbed a couple of rain slickers and kept right on traveling around the world. Lines were almost non-existent and most of the attractions were inside so we may have walked from country to country in the rain, but we stepped out of the rain to view the exhibits and the shops.

During our visit with our daughter in ’05, it rained twice while we were in the Magic Kingdom and once again, we donned our ponchos and went a traveling to the rides. Did you know Splash Mountain can be heated as easily as it can be cooled? There were plenty of sheltered areas outside where you could hold up during the worst of the downpours, but there was a really neat effect that occurred when the last parade of the day traveled through the rain.

Singing in the Rain

The rain actually made the lights more sparkly and glowing. It was pretty cool! So don’t get rained out of the parks, take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the rain and the parks and you know – Disney is just as magical in the rain as it is out of it.

If you’re traveling with young children, be sure to carry a small towel so you can wipe down the stroller because they are often parked outside of shelter while you are in an attraction. Also bring along an extra plastic sheeting that you can toss over the top of it to protect the younger passengers.

Have you ever enjoyed Disney in the rain?
