Residents and travelers to Wisconsin aren’t. Parts of the state just got slammed with a whopping 16 inches of snow in less than 24 hours. So much for a spring thaw. But the Midwest is not the only place in the world where you can take advantage of late-season powder. Slopes from Colorado to Vermont to Austria are offering spring ski deals that are worth checking out.
Here are a couple money saving deals that might inspire you to take a final run down some of the world’s most famous mountains:
MAMMOTH MOUNTAIN, CALIFORNIA
It’s one of North America’s most popular ski destinations, but once April and May roll around the number of skiers hitting the slopes at California’s Mammoth Mountain ski resort goes downhill. Not very many travelers know that Mammoth’s location in the Sierra Nevada mountain range preserves snow better than just about anywhere in the world. The ski season at Mammoth typically runs through Memorial Day, and often into June. You can experience it for yourself by taking advantage of Mammoth Mountain’s Spring Fest lodging package. The deal is valid at upscale Mammoth Mountain Inn from April 20 to May 16. Nightly rates start at $111 per person, with lift tickets. A two-night stay is required.
AUSTRIA
Late-season ski deals can also be found in the Austrian Alps. Ski Europe is offering some great deals including one that features a weeklong jaunt in the scenic Tyrolean town of Innsbruck (which features 200 trails that spread over 310 miles of top ski terrain) for only $700. The money saving deal is valid for departures through mid-April and includes roundtrip airfare from New York (or other major U.S. cities for a few extra dollars); seven nights at the simple and clean Hotel Tautermann; and buffet breakfast daily. Space is limited and the deal ends in a couple of weeks.
