Don’t Throw it Out! Quick Fixes for Electronics

keyboard Electronics can be expensive. That is why it is important to make them last as long as you can. Sometimes mishaps or accidents happen that make us groan and think, “Oh no, it is ruined.” With a little know how you may be able to rescue your device. Try these fixes before you head to the shop for a replacement or repair. You may just save yourself the cost of the replacement.

Spilled Liquid on a Keyboard

Promising myself that I will not drink coffee near by keyboard is just not practical. I’m a writer, and that is just what most of us do. Fortunately (hoping I don’t jinx myself), I haven’t spilled coffee or other liquids on my keyboard. Still, I know the solution if that ever does happen. I can simply turn the keyboard upside down and disconnect it. Then after waiting 48 hours, it should be dry. A pre-moistened wipe should clean the surface, and save me from having to buy a new keyboard altogether.

Cell Phone Plunged into Water

If your cellphone gets accidentally dropped into the bathtub, a sink, a puddle or even the toilet, it doesn’t mean that this is the end of your phone. You still may be able to save it. Remove both the sim card and the battery as soon as possible. Wipe everything off. Use a vacuum to such out as much moisture as possible, and then allow all of the parts to air dry for at least two days. Reassemble your phone and see if it works. It is important to make sure that you don’t power it up before it is completely dry, or it will short out.

If you drop the phone in any other kind of liquid but water, such as juice, quickly rinse all of the parts in water before wiping.
